De'Arcey "Dee" Campbell
Old Dominion Boat Club Member
De'Arcey "Dee" Campbell, once a
member of the Old Dominion Boat Club, started his rowing career in
1946
when a friend invited him down to
the Old Dominion Boat Club to row with him. Dee grew up in Old
Town
Alexandria, graduated from
George Washington High School in 1944, served in the Navy for two years and
returned to
Alexandria. He was on the Old
Dominion Boat Club Rowing Team beginning in 1947 and later began his
coaching
career at Francis Hammond High
School in 1959. Following is an article written for the
Alexandria Times by
Carla Branch. The article is an
overview of Dee's young years in Alexandria, his rowing and coaching
career, and
the naming of the Alexandria
Boathouse "The Dee Campbell Rowing Center." (Place
