March 3, members of the Old Dominion Boat Club presented a check for
more than $54,000 to the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at
Georgetown University Hospital. The money was raised by club members at
a fundraiser in February in memory of ODBC member Denis “Andy” Horne,
who died of colon cancer two years ago. “Andy received world class
treatment at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in his battle with
cancer. Seeing the personal care and latest technologies available to
Andy at Lombardi has inspired us to support their research to find a
cure for this devastating disease,” said Club Member and Event
Coordinator of the “Pink Skirts Charity Fundraiser,” Mark Poskaitis.
Michael Vander Hoek accepted the check. “Those of us at Lombardi are
inspired by the hard work and dedication of individuals and volunteers
like those represented on this committee. With the $31,000 donated from
their fundraiser last year, we purchased a state-of-the-art microscope.
As a patient-focused organization, this year’s impressive donation will
go towards making our CT Scan Receiving Rooms more comfortable in an
effort to reduce fears of patients and families,” he said.
