Old Dominion Boat Club Hosts Silent Auction Fundraiser
on Friday, February 3rd in Honor of Member’s Death

Alexandria, Virginia – “On February 3rd we plan to host the largest Silent Auction Fundraiser in the history of ODBC. Proceeds from last year’s event totaled over $30,000.  This will be the 2nd annual fundraiser in memory of an active and well known member Denis “Andy” Horne who succumbed to colon cancer less than two years ago,” said Event Coordinator and Club Member Mark Poskaitis following a planning session for this year’s event.  “Andy’s battle with cancer and subsequent death at a young age of 61 brought to light the world class treatment available at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the need to support their research to find a cure for this devastating disease,” continued Poskaitis.

This year’s silent auction will have over a hundred various items donated by Old Dominion Boat Club members, local businesses and national organizations.  The items include donated vacation packages, sports memorabilia, artwork, jewelry, and dinner packages to some of Alexandria’s most popular restaurants.

The location of the fundraiser is the Old Dominion Boat Club, One King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Both the upstairs and downstairs facilities of the ODBC will be utilized to host the event.  It begins at 8:00pm to midnight.  A suggested tax deductible donations of $50 per ticket will include food, beer & wine, entertainment by Alexandria’s favorite Joe Chiocca Band and a chance to win the raffle and other prizes.  All proceeds will benefit the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University.

Club President Eric DeSoto said, “Our Club has a long standing tradition of promoting charitable activities and events.  We are pleased to once again contribute our facility and time to help make the Lombardi Fundraiser a successful event.  They have cutting-edge research and the proceeds from this fundraiser can help make a difference in the lives of their patients.”
