The Old Dominion Boat Club Holds its
127th Election for Club Leadership
Alexandria,
VA
(December 5, 2006)
– Alexandria’s Old Dominion Boat Club (ODBC) held its annual
election of Officers and Board of Governors last night. An
attendance capacity larger than most years was there to choose
Officers and Governors that will represent the Membership. The
candidate platforms were similar. That is to
-
represent the
interest of the Membership at all times
-
continue and
expand charitable and social activities
-
maintain our ODBC presence in our current location on the
waterfront
The following Officers were unopposed and will remain in position
for 2007. They are Eric DeSoto as President, Carolyn Dabney Bell as
Vice President, Dee Phillips as Secretary and Jim Burow as
Treasurer.
Tom
Whalen will replace Lorraine Lloyd as Commodore in 2007. Lloyd has held
the position of Commodore for three years and decided not to run for
re-election. Lloyd was given a standing ovation during the meeting for
her outstanding dedication and services to the Club.
There were some
changes in the election of seven Governors for the ODBC Board. The
newly elected ODBC Board of Governors for 2007 are Terry Anderson, Dee
Beresford, Chuck Bryant, Jim Dooley, Larry Landgraff, Greg McDermott,
and Doug Phillips.
Ray Cobean, current
Chairman of the Board and Club Historian, decided not to run for
re-election. Cobean has held a Governor’s position for six years and
many other key leadership positions over the last 17 years including
Vice President and Treasurer. Cobean said “I have some Club Historian
projects that I’d like to devote more time to developing. Knowing the
candidates, we are in good hands with a new elected Board that will work
in the best interest of our Membership.”
Past President and
Governor Harry Harrington did not accept a nomination as well stating,
“After serving as Governor for over 15 years it is time to step aside
and allow new leadership to develop. This is a critical time and I will
remain active as Chairman of the Waterfront Committee.” Harrington has
been Chairman of the Club’s Waterfront Committee since 1985 and involved
with the Committee since the early 70’s. Harrington also is Chairman of
two annual programs sponsored by ODBC for Alexandria’s Children with
Special Needs.
Past President and
Governor Chris Marino decided not to run for re-election to devote more
time to his personal life. Marino will remain active as a volunteer with
club events and functions.
Club President Eric
DeSoto ended the meeting with a round of applause and thank you to the
outgoing Governors. DeSoto said, “I look forward to working with the
2007 Board that has been voted in by our Membership”
