Old Dominion
Boat Club Donates a “Treasure Chest of Cash” to the Lombardi
Comprehensive Cancer Center
Alexandria,
Virginia – “On February 3rd we hosted the largest sell out
fundraiser event in the history of ODBC,” said Old Dominion Boat Club
President Eric DeSoto. “Local businesses, Club Members, and national
organizations made generous contributions to make the fundraiser for the
Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center a success. Tonight, representing
the generosity of all, we were honored to present Lombardi with a check
for over $54,000,” continued DeSoto at an Cocktail Reception hosted by
ODBC to thank contributor and volunteers of the fundraiser.
This was the 2nd
annual fundraiser hosted by ODBC in memory of Club Member Denis “Andy”
Horne who succumbed to colon cancer less than two years ago at the age
of 61. “Andy received world class treatment at the Lombardi
Comprehensive Cancer Center in his battle with cancer. Seeing the
personal care and latest technologies available to Andy at Lombardi has
inspired us to support their research to find a cure for this
devastating disease,” said Club Member and Event Coordinator of the
“Pink Skirts Charity Fundraiser,” Mark Poskaitis.
Michael Vander Hoek,
Associate Director of Administration for Lombardi, accepting the check
said, “Those of us at Lombardi are inspired by the hard work and
dedication of individuals and volunteers like those represented on this
committee. With the $31,000 donated from their fundraiser last year, we
purchased a state-of-the-art microscope. As a patient-focused
organization, this year’s impressive donation will go towards making our
CT Scan Receiving Rooms more comfortable in an effort to reduce fears of
patients and families,” continued Hoek.
City of
Alexandria’s Mayor William “Bill” Euille, Vice Mayor Redella “Dell”
Pepper, and Councilman Andrew Macdonald were in attendance for the
presentation of the check to the Michael Vander Hoek of the Lombardi
Center.
