Death inspires Old Dominion Boat Club to host a Polar Burr Plunge on
New Year’s Day for the American Liver Foundation
Alexandria,
Virginia – “From its earliest history to today, the Old Dominion
Boat Club has been a continuous supporter of chartable institutions”
says Chris Marino, Club President following a planning session with
the American Liver Foundation for the National Capital Area Polar
Burr Plunge to take place at the Old Dominion Boat Club of Old Town
Alexandria on New Year’s Day 2006. “The recent death of one of our
active members, Dave Penland who succumbed to liver disease at the
age of 59, inspired us to partner with the American Liver Foundation
in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for research.”
“The Old Dominion
Boat Club’s partnership in hosting the Polar Burr Plunge along with
the sponsorship of several corporations such as America Online,
Design Cuisine, Sport & Health Clubs, Catalyst, and Arena Sport is
having a great impact on making the New Year’s Day Plunge a
successful event. Everyone’s generosity in supporting our efforts
to raise money will help towards life-saving research, education,
and the annihilation of liver disease,” says Catherine Roper,
Community Event Coordinator for the National Capital Area Chapter.
The event is
being promoted to DC, Maryland and Virginia Masters swim programs,
children’s swim teams, high schools and college swim teams and
triathletes. Pre-registration began on November 7th at
http://www.alfdc.org/ or
http://www.lin-mark.com/.
The location of
the event is Old Dominion Boat Club, 1 King Street, Alexandria, VA
22314. Day of registration starts at 12 noon and the plunge begins
