ODBC Raises the Flag and
Welcomes the 2005 Boating Season
Alexandria, Virginia - The Old
Dominion Boat Club officially welcomed the 2005 boating season with a
“Flag Raising” Ceremony on Sunday, May 1st. Before a large
crowd of community residents, ODBC Club members and their guest the
ceremony began with the Presentation of Colors by the U.S.Coast Guard -
Ceremonial Honor Guard. Assistant Minister of the Washington United
Methodist Church Mark Mrini gave the Invocation and Callie Terrell of
the Alexandria Fire Department awed the large crowd with her singing of
the National Anthem. Colonel Kenneth J. Lee, USMC; Joe Hadley,
Commodore of the Potomac River Yacht Club; Mayor William D. Euille;
Former Mayor Frank Mann; ODBC President Chris Marino and past ODBC
President Paul Thomas all participated in raising the flags. Harry
Harrington, ODBC Governor, honored each raising of the flag with a loud
cannon blast. Lorraine Lloyd, ODBC Commodore and the Master of
Ceremonies, gave special thanks to the John Glenn Fireboat, the
Alexandria Fireboat, and the Alexandria Fire Department Engine Co. 201 &
204 for their participation.
