 HOW TO GUIDE

The Old Dominion Boat Club maintains a marina of 53 boat slips. Additionally we have a work float and 2 “Tee” docks.  Members who are assigned slips are known as slipholders. Members who are not assigned a slip can make a reservation and request berthing at the ODBC. Members are assigned slips according to the rules set forth in the  M&B rules. This process is begun by getting on one or more of the various slip waiting lists. This how to guide will assist on making it clear how things work with the ODBC Marina. Please note that some of this information is contained in the M&B rules.

How to get on the slip list?
Slip waiting list applications are kept at the bar in the M&B 3 ring binder. Simply request the form from bar tender. Fill it out and enclose a $25.00 application fee and leave it for the M&B committee through the mail slot in the office. You can apply for the following waiting lists:
·         Large Slip
·         Small slip
·         Dry storage

What happens to my slip application?
Once the Committee approves your application by signing it:
·         Your application fee (Check, cash) will be given to the treasurer
·         Your name is placed on the appropriate slip waiting list
·         Your application is announced in the newsletter
·         Your application is announced the next board meeting
·         Your application announced at next general membership meeting
·         The M&B Committee returns a copy of the application to you.
·         You will be offered a slip when you reach the top of the list.

How to make a boat slip reservation at the ODBC?
To make a reservation contact the committee chair, currently Art Fox, Home: (703) 683-0880,Office: (310) 868-3355. Provide name of boat, size of boat, dates you want. If a slip is or Tee is available you will be assigned that spot or placed on a waiting list. Members can request a slip or tee, no longer than 30 days in advance. (Other club members can reserve no more than 2 weeks in advance). Non-slipholders assigned temporary berthing at the ODBC are known as transients.

How long can I stay at the ODBC as a transient?
Current policy is one week.

What happens to my boat reservation?
Boat reservations status is posted at the club each Friday on the M&B bulletin board.. If you are waiting for a slip, you will be posted.  A copy is also in the M&B book at the bar. The committee chair will contact you as slips become available on a first called first served basis.

How do transients come into the club?
If you have a posted transient reservation, tie up your boat in the space assigned, go up to the bar and pay your slip fee. Your  slip reservation signed by the committee should be in the reservation book. Sign your reservation and pay the fee. Current fee is $.25 foot per night  for members and $1.00 foot per night for non members. You will also receive a copy of the rules during your stay. You must provide proof of insurance when at the bar. If you are a non-ODBC member, a club card for gaining access to and from the club will be provided.

Can I just stop in at the Marina?
If the tee’s are open you can temporarily tie up, check the reservation board and go up to the bar. You should call the M&B chairman. If no one has reserved the spot you can stay for a few hours. If you wish to stay overnight, you must make a reservation, and pay your slip fee at the bar.  In any event, do not tie up, and leave the club without checking with the club manager or M&B chair. Boaters call and make reservation at any time and this can and has caused us to assign a slip that is occupied by an unknown boat which is  unfair to the member who is following the rules in making a reservation.

How do slips become available?
Whenever a slipholder leaves their slips for more than 7 days, they are to notify the M&B chair. These slips are available for transients or sub leases

What is a sublease?
If a slip becomes available for more than 1 week the committee can assign the slip to another member on the sub lease slip waiting list.  Members on the sublease list are encouraged to contact the committee whenever a sublease is posted (on newsletter, on M&B bulletin board, general membership or board meeting.). The highest person on the sublease list responding will be assigned the slip.

What are non-upgradeable slips?
There are 3 very shallow slips known as non-upgradeable slips. When they become available, it is posted in the newsletter, and announced at the general membership meeting. Anyone on the slip list is eligible for these slips. The highest person on the list will be assigned that slip. To be assigned a regular deep-water slip, you must get to the top of the waiting list.

How do I launch my boat at the club?
Members can launch their boats using the boat ramp for the purpose of day sailing. You cannot leave your boat or trailer overnight at the club.

How can I store my boat at the boat lot?
Those on the dry storage lists are eligible to store their boats at the club. The order you were placed on the list determines your eligibility. Each spring a letter is sent to those on the list who reply if they are interested that in storing a boat at the club for the upcoming season.

How can I use the work float?
The work float as the name implies is primarily used to perform repairs and maintenance on your boat. To reserve the float contact the M&B chair who will post your reservation. The work float can be used to load and unload passengers.

What are the line requirements to secure a boat in the marina?
M&B rules require 1/2 line minimum must be used to secure a boat in the ODBC Marina.  Visiting oat owners are resonsible for using their own lines.  As a courtesy to slip holders, any lines found in a slip are not to be used or tampered with so that when the assigned slip holder reoccupies the slip, they do not have to adjust the lines.

Does ODBC supply loaner electrical power cords?
No, visiting boaters are required to provide their own electrical power cords.
