Blessing of the Fleet - Dedicated to Dee Phillips

  • 14 May 2016
  • ODBC

The Old Dominion Boat Club will participate in the Port of Washington Yacht Club’s Blessing of the Fleet in the Washington Channel in Washington D.C.

ODBC will again lead the formation past the reviewing stand to receive the annual blessing for a safe boating season.

ODBC is scheduled to arrive at the Washington Channel at 11:30 a.m. In order to leave our marina and arrive on schedule, we need to be leaving the docks at 10:30 a.m.  I would like participating boaters to have everyone on board their boats by 10:15 a.m., ready to drop lines and leave their slip.

If all captains, crew and guests could be at the Boat Club by 10 a.m. on Saturday, that will give us time to leave the slips, form up and steam up river.

If you plan to join the ODBC group this year, please send me the name of your boat, the captain’s name and if you are willing to take guests on board your boat.  Send to: bkgard123@aol.com. We will assign a sequence number to each boat as an identifier to the folks on the reviewing stand.

I will put up a sign-up sheet in the taproom for captains who are willing to take guests and for ODBC members who would like to ride on a boat and participate in the blessing.

After the blessing, we will return to ODBC and have a pot-luck luncheon on the patio.  Please bring your favorite dish to share.  Last year we had a great turnout and a great party afterwards.

This year’s Blessing of the Fleet event is being dedicated to ODBC’s late long time Secretary and party organizer extraordinaire, Dee Phillips, who was the driving force behind last year’s successful Blessing event. As Dee would say, “C’mon…let’s get out there and have some fun!”
